Showing Up

This past week sure has been a busy one!

I finished onboarding with Chicago Public Schools on Monday and was given the green light to start my new high school Social Studies teaching position on Tuesday, which I did. I started during the 3rd week of school for CPS students and needless to say, it has been a whirlwind!!!!! The good news is that I love my new school and while it will continue to be a bumpy start of the 2024-5 school year, I feel very welcomed and supported. My new schedule includes 2 classrooms, 3 sections of 9th grade Civics, and 2 sections of 11th grade Human Geography (which many of my students thought was going to be a human ANATOMY class) and while my students were getting used to coasting along with a substitute teacher and completing little to no work in class, they stepped up last week for the most part and got busy with my new assignments. Yes, my students’ completed assignments equals work for me to grade this weekend–but it is a task I welcome! We are playing catch up, but we are showing up.

I’m not out of the weeds just yet, but the new job is a big shot of forward momentum.

This is going to be a quick post because I have more grading and planning to do tonight. However, I feel the pull to make publishing a weekly blog post into a personal habit and the only way that is going to happen is if I write and publish a post each week. Even a quick post is a quick chance to write. I have to show up and that is what this quick post is going to be. My showing up. I hope you can, as well, with whatever challenges may be going on in your world.

Have a great week!

  1. I can’t even imagine how hectic last week must have been with breaking in kids who have had a sub!!! And the work will continue this week …. No break until they are broken in!
